A taxpayer sued the city and the contractor, contending the city was defrauded in the design and construction of the new building, due to construction methods used to form and pour the flat slab reinforced concrete structure. Mr. McConnell developed evidence proving that engineering tests done on the building before the finishes were installed demonstrated that the structure met all code requirements and contract specifications.
Chicago's new central police headquarters building sits on a 10 acre campus in the Bronzeville neighborhood, at 35th and Michigan Avenue. It opened in June 2000 as the most technologically advanced police facility in the United States. The five story, 390,000 square foot building houses 1,200 police department employees.
