Under the contract between J C Decaux and the City of Chicago, Decaux pays for manufacture, assembly, instalation and upkeep of 1,000 elegant new bus shelters, and various other newspaper boxes and information kiosks, all across the city. Decaux arranges for the sale of advertising space on all of the street furniture, paying the city $20 million per year from the advertising revenue. The remainder of the ad revenue pays for the costs incurred by Decaux in putting up and maintaining the shelters, and for a profit to Decaux from its advertising business.
